Building Science Principles Certificate

The Building Science Principles (BSP) course will provide you with the essential background on the science behind the energy auditing process.  This level of knowledge will enable you to educate your customers about their energy saving options, provide field employees with a new level of understanding of whole house performance and provide owners insight into what services you can add to your current business model. If your job is related to energy in any capacity, having a basic understanding of how various systems of the home interact to maximize energy efficiency, enhance building durability, and protect occupant comfort, health and safety will enhance your ability to provide a higher level of service to your customers than your competition.

Earning the Building Science Principles certificate is your first introduction into the world of energy efficient home performance. If you own an energy related business and want to sharpen your knowledge of the options of diversifying into home performance, this course will give you the start you need to decide. If your job entails educating customers on energy efficient HVAC or ways to save energy/money, this course will help you understand the relationship between the building envelope, heating, A/C, insulation, mechanical ventilation, lighting, appliances and other systems of the home. Learn how all of these systems affect the comfort, health and safety of occupants and durability of the home. Discover why improving the energy efficiency of the home is the first step toward solar, geothermal or other renewable energy improvements. Then take this knowledge and educate your customers, employees and family.

This class is a great first step for those considering additional BPI certifications. It requires just 12 hours of classroom time, including an online test. Although field testing is not a part of this course, The School for Energy Efficiency has the hands on learning with an on-site test house and construction displays that will enhance your learning. The course is offered in 2 day sessions, 9-4, and in 3-4 hour sessions.

This class provides 2 BPI CEUs.
