As the need for alternative energy sources, like solar thermal -- continues to grow, so does the need for the certified professionals in specialty energy fields.

Entech's Solar Certification 3-day course is approved by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, and will get you started toward you Solar Thermal License.  To earn this solar thermal certificate, you must already have a P-1, P-2, P-3, P-4, S-1, S-2, S-3 or S-4 license from the Department of Consumer Protection (CGS Chpt. 20, Sec. 330) and (a) complete a solar thermal installation training course approved by the Commissioner (such as Entech's course) and (b) achieve a passing score on a solar thermal work examination approved by the Commissioner.

Course Details:

Entech's Solar Thermal Certification Course covers all aspects of solar thermal work-installation, erection, repair, replacement, alteration, and maintenance of active, passive and hybrid solar systems that directly convert ambient energy into heat, or convey, store, and distribute such ambient energy.

You'll learn about solar theory, solar energy fundamentals, heat transfer, and insulation values, and how they are affected by location, season and climate. We'll teach you how to correctly measure and size a solar system, make site assessments, and check for defects in materials and components.

Coursework also includes system piping, pool heaters, water relief, and other uses for solar heated water; and national codes relating to solar heating systems and piping. Througout the class, we place an emphasis on correct procedures, tools and equipment.

Plus, you'll experience some terrific solar energy technology first-hand, thanks to our 20-tube Icarus Energy Evacuated Tube Solar Collector, graciously donated by Mark Wikman of Icarus Energy, LLC.

Course Objectives:

Students who successfully complete the course will be able to:

• correctly answer questions relating to solar thermal system piping, tanks, flow rates and wiring.
• properly identify tools, equipment and materials related to solar units.
• accurately identify parts of a solar thermal system.
• determine if a system is structurally and visually sound, or if there are defects in an installation.
• have an understanding of worksite safety.

All courses are held at our facility at 10 Alcap Ridge, Cromwell, CT.
